The orthodox monastery of Sucevita
The orthodox monastery of Sucevita is one of the most famous among the painted churches in the North East of Romania.
Its architecture and outside paintings attract numerous tourists from all over the world.
Sucevita’s monastery ‘‘manastirea Sucevita’’ was build at the end of XVIth century by the Movila family. It is often considered like ‘‘the Moldavian art’s legacy’’. The monastery’s church has been classify by UNESCO as world heritage. Surrounded by hills, the building is surrounded by walls flanked by towers with pointed roofs. Those defense walls are 6 meters tall and 3 meters thick.
Its central church is entirely covered with frescos where the green and red outshine. Those frescos show an important number of biblical characters. Saints, prophets, chroniclers, and martyrs are counted by hundreds, their expressions extremely worked deserve to be observed one by one.
The construction of the initial monastic group started during the XVIth century. It lasted from 1581 to 1601.
The first church build by the Movila’s family members on the current monastic facility was of humble dimension.
After having reached Moldova’s throne in 1595, Ieremia Movila added to the church two external crossbars on the northen and southern entrance sides, then the reinforced fortifications of rectangular shape and the four enclosure towers that give to the monastery its medieval city apperance. He finally added a residence for princes, today in ruins, and the monk’s cells.

The monastery is open every day from 7 am to 9 pm
The museum can be visited from 9 am to 5 pm
The Saint Mass take place between 9.30 am and 12 am Saturday and Sunday, from 7.30 am to 9.00 am the other days.

The citadel of Suceava, also known in the name of ‘‘cetatea de scaun din Suceava’’, it’s a medieval fortress situate in the East of the Suceava’s town (Northeast of Romania). Gura Humorului is a town of the Suceava’s department, in Bucovine, situate in the North East of Romania. This village shelters the famous Voronet’s monastery that has gived its name to the blue color of Voronet.
According to the legend, the king Stefan Cel Mare took his bow and loose an arrow from the top of the neighboring mountain to the place where the sanctuary was built.
This monastery became later the place where he was buried.
