{"id":26201,"date":"2022-03-18T10:03:06","date_gmt":"2022-03-18T09:03:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/centraltransylvania.com\/the-plum-magiun\/"},"modified":"2022-03-23T09:38:28","modified_gmt":"2022-03-23T08:38:28","slug":"romanian-plum-magiun-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/centraltransylvania.com\/en\/romanian-plum-magiun-story\/","title":{"rendered":"The Plum Magiun"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here is the story of the Romanian plum magiun<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The origins of Romanian plum Magiun<\/strong>\nMagiun is a Romanian dessert, found especially in the Moldavian part of Romania.\nAccording to legend, this product originated in Turkey, imported to Romania during the Ottoman conquests around the 15th century.\nBy the way, the word &#8220;<em>magiun<\/em>&#8221; comes from the Turkish &#8220;<em>macun<\/em>&#8221; which means &#8220;paste&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is Plum Magiun?<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Magiun_of_Topoloveni\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plum magiun<\/a> comes in the form of a thick paste. It is obtained by slow cooking (between 2 and 6 hours). It is even now used as a replacement for American plum marmalade at all NATO bases.\nIn particular, the magiun of Topoloveni is highly renowned and enjoys a protected designation of origin in a very restricted production area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"402\" height=\"272\" src=\"https:\/\/centraltransylvania.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Magiun-de-prune-romania-870x588px-402x272.jpg\" alt=\"Magiun de prunes roumanie Romanian Plum Magiun\" class=\"wp-image-7905\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How is it eaten?<\/strong>\nLike a jam. It&#8217;s delicious in pancakes, or even simply on toast.\nIt can also be used in <a href=\"https:\/\/centraltransylvania.com\/en\/tarte-croquante-au-magiun-de-prunes\/\">pies<\/a> or donuts.\nWe recommend that you simply try it with a small spoon, to be able to appreciate the full flavor of this unique product.\nCooking over low and very slow heat preserves the nutrients of the fruit which would otherwise be destroyed by rapid cooking. We really find the taste of the fruit in this natural product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Are there variations?<\/strong>\nYes! Some make magiun with apples.
